Newborn sessions take place in my home studio in Calgary, AB. It lasts 2-3 hours, so we have enough time to cuddle, feed and pose the baby with no rush. All newborn sessions are scheduled weekdays at 10am. Some exceptions may apply.

The best time to schedule a newborn session is within 2 weeks after birth. At this time babies are more sleepy and curly and we can get most of the cute poses you see here on my website. It is important to let me know as soon as baby comes!

It is very important to schedule your session before baby arrives. I know that once your baby is born, you’ll have a lot on your mind, and selecting a photographer might not be the first thing on your list. That’s why it’s best to book your baby’s photo session a couple months before your due date. I will add your estimated due date to my calendar and once your little one arrives we will schedule your newborn session within the first two weeks. I only book a few sessions a month so my calendar is very flexible. Even if baby arrives before or after your due date we will find a date and time that work for both of us.

What if my baby is already born? I’m always happy to photograph older babies with the understanding that we might get only awake and wrapped shots. If your baby is already born don’t hesitate to contact me, I sometimes have last-minute openings!

I offer a complete set of props and accessories, you don’t have to worry about anything. If you would like to do some family shots, we will do those at the end of the session.

Newborn Safety

As every baby is different, not all babies can be posed the same, and no baby should be put into a pose that makes them uncomfortable. It is of the utmost importance that the photographer you choose can safety execute newborn poses, and is able to judge when a baby isn't comfortable.

Many poses are created using composite images, where supporting hands are edited out in photoshop so it may look like a baby is balancing it's head on its hands, or is suspended by a wrap or arm, however your baby should always be supported. Although I do not generally use an assistant, I encourage mom or dad to be involved with the session to help support their baby. If parents do not want to assist in sessions, I will tailor your session to include simple and classic posing that does not require an assistant. Note that if you are having twins I will have an assistant with me.

I have a strict health policy. Sick babies, parents, or siblings are not allowed in my studio due to the work I do with newborns. There is no charge to reschedule a shoot due to illness or injury, however, please give as much advance notice as possible to reschedule your session. If I am unwell I will let you know so we can reschedule. In the case that I become sick and am not able to do your newborn session within the first 2-3 weeks of life I will work with you to find an alternate newborn photographer.

All of my studio equipment, props, and blankets are cleaned regularly between sessions.

Prior to your session I will send parents an information package with tips to prepare for your newborn session.

If you have any questions regarding safety please send me a message using the "contact" form at the bottom of the page.
